If you are looking to design a sign, then the following guide will show you what you need to know. There are some aspects of sign design that must be considered in order for your sign to be effective. It is important not to overlook any of these factors because they help create the perfect sign!

  • What Is The Purpose Of Your Sign?
  • Use A Font That Is Readable
  • Keep The Text To A Minimum And Use Simple Language
  • Make Sure Your Sign Can Be Seen From Far Away
  • Make Sure The Colors Of Your Sign Match With The Color Scheme Of Your Company
  • Avoid Using Symbols In Place Of Letters

What Is The Purpose Of Your Sign?

First of all, you have to know the purpose of the sign. For example, if your sign is to tell people that they should not enter a room with high voltage equipment in their pockets, then you have to write it on the sign. This is the purpose of the sign. Once you know this, then it will be easy to design your sign.

The sign should show that people cannot enter a room with high volt equipment in their pockets. In order to make an effective sign design, you must determine the purpose and focus completely on it. Otherwise, your sign will not have the desired influence.

Use A Font That Is Readable

The font on the sign must be readable because if it’s not, the sign message will be distorted and easily misunderstood. It is important to use a font that can be read from far away distances or even at night time. Fonts like Garamond and Calibri are perfect for sign making because they have an easy-to-read structure.

Today’s fonts come in many different styles, so there should always be something available that could fit the sign design you want – remember: just as with every other part of signage design, legibility must take precedence over style when selecting lettering typeface for signs as well!

Here is a list of examples of how what fonts you should use for the sign:

  • Times New Roman
  • Arial Black or Impact font for a more hardcore look and feel.
  • Calibri font because it is clear, clean, and easy to read from any distance and in different lighting conditions (day/night)
  • Garamond font because it is easy to read. It has a classic look and feels.
  • Calibri font for business companies because the letters are clean, modern-looking, professional, legible from any distance or lighting conditions (day/night)
  • Arial Black

Keep The Text To A Minimum And Use Simple Language

The text on a sign is the most important part of it. Keep your sign easy to understand, and don’t overload the text with details that can affect comprehension on the first read. Also, keep in mind that you’re not writing for yourself, but rather someone who doesn’t know much about this topic yet, so uses as simple language as possible without being too informal or colloquial.

Signs are meant to be informative and clear as they give directions, information, or warnings along with some other type of information such as prices at stores, among others things. A sign needs to have an attention-grabbing font color but also a very readable one that makes letters stand out from each other so people could easily distinguish between each one and read the sign’s text.

Make Sure Your Sign Can Be Seen From Far Away

The location of a sign is very important because you want to make sure that those who need the sign can see it from far away. For example, if your sign at an airport says to go through security and then pick up their checked luggage on the other side, people will miss this sign as they walk by it unless there’s something like a bench or wall for them to stop and read the sign first.

This isn’t exactly what you would call good signage design because anyone could easily find themselves in line waiting behind someone who missed this vital piece of information about where they should be going next.

Make Sure The Colors Of Your Sign Match With The Color Scheme Of Your Company

The color scheme of your sign should match the color scheme of your entire company. The sign needs to work in harmony and not be too contrasting or distracting. This is why you need to make sure that all signs share a particular complementary color scheme, which will create an overall cohesive look and feel for visitors.

People like consistency, meaning if they see one sign using blue colors and another one being green, it might appear very bizarre from their point of view. That’s why when designing a sign, you have to pay attention to these things!

Avoid Using Symbols In Place Of Letters

Using letters is smarter than using signs that are made out of symbols. Letters will help people to read the sign clearly and understand what it is saying much easier than if there were symbols instead of letters on the sign. Keep this in mind when you’re designing so that you can make sure your audience can easily see what it says, even without much explanation.

As you can see, there’s a lot to think about when designing a sign. That’s why you should always consider all the factors. Make sure it’s readable, and the purpose is known to everyone, and also that it’s placed at a location everyone can see it. The colors should complement the company’s scheme, and letters are always a better solution. Good luck designing your perfect sign!
