Tips to Get Better Sleep

Whether it is a physical condition, stress, anxiety, or your lifestyle, sometimes it becomes hard to hit the hay like you normally would. When it happens almost every day, it can seriously take a toll on your life, both personal and professional. So, if you have been having a hard time getting sleep, these tips should be of great help.

    Keep the Feet Warm

This might sound peculiar, but keeping your feet warm will help you relax, which is vital in getting sleepy. That’s because when both your body and feet are warm, you get in a more calm and relaxed state. The feet are the most important part of the body in terms of regulating temperature. So, when bedtime nears, consider wearing socks, fluffy slippers, or simply keep a blanket over the feet.

  1. Dim the Lights

There are numerous ways to help you relax and stay come before bedtime and bedtime is one of them. Bright lights around your house will only keep the brain alert and stimulated. Dim lights, on the other hand, will signal both the brain and body to get ready for sleep.

The gentle glow from these lights will help you relax, so the next time you are having a hard time sleeping, consider dimming the lights and put some relaxing or soothing music while at it. This should help you feel drowsy in no time.

  1. Take a Soothing Bath

Speaking of relaxation and unwinding, a warm bath with dimmed lights or candles is another great way to calm your body and mind before bed. Taking a bath after a long day at work or school is perhaps the best way to destress and relax.

So, incorporate a soak in bath bombs, essential oils, or bath salts into your night routine and you should notice a change in how fast you relax and sleep.

  1. Turn Off the Gadgets

We all love our gadgets and like using them even in bed. However, many people fail to realize that these gadgets emit blue light which not only hampers the release of the sleep hormone but also stimulates the brain. This makes it harder to fall asleep, even when tired.

So, when bedtime is close (about 30 minutes to bed), ensure you turn off all electronic devices and don’t turn them on until morning. This included the TV, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc. The next episode for that captivating show or your social media page can wait for the next day.

  1. Sip Warm, Calming Beverages

A great way to unwind before bed and after a soothing bath is a warm drink. A warm cup of milk is highly recommended as it contributes to sleep, but you can also take chamomile tea with honey.

  1. Practice Meditation or Yoga

Doing a few yoga poses coupled with breathing exercises is another way to help the body unwind before bedtime. Meditation or praying is another recommendation if you are a spiritual person. These activities put you in an alpha state of might and relax both the body and mind. And we all know that relaxation is essential for quality sleep.

  1. Read a Relaxing Book

Another way to unwind before you hit the hay is to read a relaxing book. The fictional stories allow your mind to escape reality and create an oasis of peace. However, you will want to avoid books full of suspense, action, or horror as they will only stimulate your brain.

  1. Write Down Your Thoughts

If your day-to-day job or studies cannot allow you to unwind and sleep, it is advisable to take an hour before bed and make a to-do list for the following day. If you have stressful thoughts, write them down as well as how to solve them. This should help put you at ease.

  1. Get Comfortable
