For many people, living in a big city would be a dream come true. The bright lights, nightlife, convenience of great shopping around the corner, and plethora of career opportunities are all great reasons to move to the city. Not to mention, cities are the center of our country’s culture, arts, and entertainment scenes. Plus, in cities like New York, LA, San Francisco, and Chicago, you’re liable to run into the occasional celebrity. Indeed, there’s always something fun and exciting on the horizon in the city. However, many people prefer something much slower and subtler, and that’s fine, too.

If you’re from a big city or have spent a lot of time living in one, it’s understandable if you’re ready to make the adjustment to a slower, quieter, more rural way of life. One of the best things about rural living is there’s plenty of space, as 97 percent of the land in the United States is considered rural, and only 19 percent of the population live in rural areas. However, it can be a major adjustment or even a learning curve for people moving from the city to rural areas. Continue reading to get some tips to enhance your rural experience and adjust to country living.

  • Consider investing in a log cabin.
  • Add a sunroom to your home to increase natural light.
  • Convert your backyard into the perfect summer respite.
  • Plant a veggie garden to provide your family with fresh produce.

Consider investing in a log cabin.

If you travel through some rural areas, especially in northern states in the U.S., you’ll see a lot of log homes dotting the countryside. Indeed, log cabin homes have many benefits, including being durable and much more energy-efficient than traditional homes. Research online to find different floor plans and builders. Log cabins are more expensive to build than traditional homes, but they’re a great investment, as they tend to sell much quicker and appreciate better than traditional homes when properly cared for.

Add a sunroom to your home to increase natural light.

One of the great things about living in a rural area is the amazing views you get of the skies at night. Not to mention, with so many wide-open spaces, homes in rural areas tend to get a lot of natural light. Installing a sunroom is a great way to increase natural light in your home and make it more energy-efficient. Your sunroom could be a great place to retire with a good book and a glass of wine or a nice hand-rolled cigar. It won’t take long for the sunroom to become one of your favorite areas in the house. Google “window replacement in Grand Rapids, MI” to find the best window installers in your local area.

Convert your backyard into the perfect summer respite.

Another great thing about living in a rural area is you’ll likely have plenty of yard to work with. You might think about what that means for you during the lawn-mowing season, but you can cut down the amount of mowing you have to do by converting your yard into a summertime relaxation space. Adding an in-ground pool, expansive deck, or patio to your backyard are all great ways to increase your property value and turn your backyard into the perfect place to entertain guests and have fun with the family during the summer,

Plant a veggie garden to provide your family with fresh produce.

Another way to enhance your rural living experience is to plant your own veggie garden. A garden is something you and your family can enjoy tending together, and you might even be able to make some extra money by selling your products at a local farmers market.

Adjusting to living in a rural area can be challenging if you’re from the city, but you’ll love the change of pace and peace and quiet you’ll get from living away from the hustle and bustle. Indeed, with these tips, you’re officially ready for some country living.
